NILE Frontman Slams THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT For 'Crawling Into His Print Space'

November 27, 2005

In the December/January issue of the Swedish magazine Close-Up, NILE frontman Karl Sanders slams the Dutch death metal combo THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT.

"THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT come to me in Holland and they say that many journalists are saying that they sound like NILE and they think it's funny and blah blah blah," says Sanders. "They thought it would be a fun joke if I would sign a piece of paper naming them the world's only official NILE clones. Now, I listened to them and they don't sound a fucking thing like NILE, OK? I don't care, they can sound like whatever the fuck they want, but they don't sound like NILE. But it was a joke and they were nice guys, so I said 'Sure, why not?' But now, those motherfuckers have managed to crawl into all kinds of my print space and that's hard-earned print space, OK? I've been playing metal since I was a fucking teenager twenty something years ago. Every bit of my print space I've slaved for, so I don't feel like giving it to a bunch of guys that are trying to capitalize on a fucking joke. So, I hope they read this and reconsider their marketing strategy."

Did they do a thing out of the joke?

"I've seen it on their web page, I've seen it in their interviews. Come on man! What's that actually worth? It's not shit, it means nothing. It's like when we’re all sitting around here making a joke about the bartender or something, you know. Come on, it's just a joke, it shouldn't go any further."
